[Press Release] ZAYA now supports RISC-V

Updated: Sep 22, 2021

Cambridge, UK - September 22, 2021, marking a key milestone in IoT security, ZAYA Secure OS now supports RISC-V Architecture.

“RISC-V is a free and open ISA enabling a new era of processor innovation through open standard collaboration. The RISC-V ISA delivers a new level of free, extensible software and hardware freedom on architecture, paving the way for the next 50 years of computing design and innovation.” riscv.org

ZAYA is a secure operating system that creates a TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) to manage all sensitive operations and resources securely. ZAYA supports and follows IoT Security Certifications such as PSA (Platform Security Architecture), SESIP. ZAYA is one of the first operating systems that achieved PSA Certified Level 1 and PSA Certified Functional API certifications. ZAYA Secure OS offers design-time and run-time modular design to simplify the secure device development and security assessments by security labs. ZAYA Secure OS is a rich operating system that offers advanced tools for security purposes, such as Containerisation, even for MMU-less small microcontrollers.

Today, ZAYA proudly announces that ZAYA Secure OS supports RISC-V architecture to bring standardised IoT Security.

ZAYA Secure OS offers a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) for RISC-V users. ZAYA TEE collects and handles all sensitive operations and IoT Security Requirements, such as PSA 10 Goals, in an isolated secure area on RISC-V. As ZAYA TEE is a design-time (stand-alone executable) and run-time(isolated) independent executable, it can be assessed by the 3rd Part Authority to reduce the security assessment scope and challenges (e.g., costs) for IoT Manufacturers.

ZAYA Secure OS also offers containerisation for MMU-less RISC-V microcontrollers, called ZAYA microContainers. ZAYA μContainers are platform-agnostic executables that you could run user applications, different programming languages and even a guest non-secure RTOS in low privileged user space. ZAYA μContainers can violate neither ZAYA TEE (Kernel/User Space Isolation) nor other ZAYA μContainers (Process Isolation). ZAYA μContainers are independent executables, and they are not embedded into the ZAYA TEE image. ZAYA μContainers can be built/downloaded/upgraded separately that offers efficient field upgrades/OTA. All these features make ZAYA μContainers security/certification free for essential security requirements.

ZAYA TEE and μContainers are an excellent way to build secure and certification-friendly products, and ZAYA is now available for RISC-V microcontrollers.
